  What really works when you’re trying
to lose those post-baby pounds?
 
     
 

If you’re concerned about losing the weight that you put on during pregnancy, but are worried that getting into an exercise diet routine too soon, an alternative is to indulge in postnatal massage therapy.

Keeping with tradition
Postnatal massage focuses on helping to restore your body to its pre-pregnancy condition by retraining muscles and connective tissue. It plays a part to realign the body weight to its original distribution, helps reinstate the uterus to its original state, eliminates excess body fluids and tones the over stretched areas of skin especially over the abdomen.

Besides offering prenatal massages, Rustic Nirvana had set trends by being
the only spa in Singapore to offer postdelivery visits for new moms during their
confinement period to help them get back in shape. New mothers can indulge in Rustic Nirvana’s postnatal home therapy immediately after childbirth. The intensive five-day programme has a professionally trained therapist treat the new mother at her own home with jamu wraps and slimming massages.

During the home therapy visits, the new mom will be covered with drainage salts and a uniquely designed space cover will be placed over her. A pot of specially brewed herbs will be placed under the cover for five minutes. Invigorating the body to perspire heavily, this therapy will help the mom feel totally rejuvenated by greatly reducing water retention.

While the mother is having her steaming session, the therapist gives your baby a massage. You’ll enjoy postnatal massage using Rustic Nirvana traditional home blended jamu oil for 45 to 60 min. After the massage, your body is wrapped tightly with jamu wrap and overnight traditional jamu belt wrap till the next morning when the therapist arrives again. This continues for five days. On the last day the therapist will not come with the wrap but provides longer massage session.

TCM wellness
Traditional Chinese Medicine service was introduced in Rustic Nirvana to complement in-house spa treatments for a holistic experience. During postnatal care, TCM helps to heal internal complications by using herbs for oral consumption or through acupuncture treatment to improve the Qi (energy) or circulation in our body system. Usually, TCM treatments are recommended to new mothers with bad energy, circulation problems or have intention to speed up the slimming process.

Watch what you eat
Assess your eating habits by marking a chart of what you eat and drink each day for a week. Use different colours to represent different types of foods: the high-calorie, sugary and fatty snacks, such as biscuits, chocolate, sweets, chips and cakes (red foods); the fruit and veg (green foods); and the complex carbohydrates like bread, pasta, rice and potatoes (orange foods).

The following week, aim to replace at least half the red foods with green or orange ones, and check what you’ve done. This will improve the nutritional content of what you eat without making you feel deprived or hungry.

Postnatal exercise
Right after you deliver, you can start doing gentle exercise. When you feel ready to do any workout, remember to start slowly. Wait for your doctor’s approval before beginning any strengthening exercises.
